BECOME A VETERINARY TECHNICIAN

A career as a veterinary technician can be challenging but extremely rewarding. You’ll be caring for animals of all sizes and will be an integral part of the veterinary team.

Like most careers, you’ll need specific skills that you can learn through a veterinary technician program. The standards for becoming a veterinary technician can be high, so be prepared to work hard studying math, science, laboratory procedures, and medical procedures. In order to become a credentialed veterinary technician, you’ll generally have to earn a degree and pass at least one test.

Many, but not all, veterinary technician programs are accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Graduates of AVMA-accredited programs can take the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE).
