The number of U.S. households with pets is continuing to grow, causing the need for trained veterinary technicians to increase as well. In fact, from 2006 to 2016, the demand for vet techs is expected to increase faster than the average increase for all occupations!*
- Veterinary technicians perform a wide variety of tasks, including:
- Collecting and analyzing test specimens
- Taking x-rays or sonograms to detect abnormalities
- Administering anesthesia
- Assisting with surgical procedures
- Performing injections and running IVs
You could find yourself working in a privately owned practice, a
research facility, an animal hospital, or even a zoo!
